There must be tons of overlooked cities in Spain. But two of them we loved were Alicante, and north of there the small city of Denia. Both on the Mediterranean coast.
Have been to Cadiz & Girona from this list. Both are amazing but Girona stole my heart. One of the most amazing experiences was listening to a young lady play the handpan on the cathedral steps. 💕
Genuinely wondering, why does Valencia never seem to make these lists? I know it’s third largest and reasonably well known, but its beauty seems passed over quite often. Love to hear others thoughts!
Where do you get the idea that Spain is a failed socialist state?
Spain is a parliamentary monarchy, now governed by a social democratic party, which is only orthodox in name, just as the Democratic Party in the USA is called left-wing, when it is entirely centrist.
Spain is the fourth largest contributor in the EU. The days of super-subsidized countries, as Poland and Belgium are now, are long gone.
Exquisite.
I contemplate moving to Spain...the U.S. veering ever-closer to descending into an economic abyss.
However, Spain is essentially a failed Socialist State, presently dependent (to considerable extent) on handouts from the EU to remain solvent.
Should Spain ever return to standing on its own, I may reconsider living there.
Salamanca is certainly one of the most beautiful cities I've seen in Spain. Elche is super underrated as well, and food options are amazing.
